Rewards & Benefits (Bonus Schemes)

We believe that good work should be rewarded and so, throughout HSS, you will find a number of bonus schemes in operation. Some are related to your own individual performance, others to the performance of the branch/unit where you work. Note though, that in all the schemes, bonus payments are made only at the Company's discretion.

Your Letter of Appointment will tell you which schemes apply to you, and you'll be kept up to date on any changes as and when they occur.

One scheme that applies to everyone, though, is the Site Finding Bonus. If you know of anywhere that would make a good site for an HSS Hire Shop, tell your manager. If we then go on to make a formal offer for those premises as a direct result of your intervention, then you may qualify for a Site Finding Bonus payment.

Staff Hire

If you work for HSS, we don't expect you to pay to hire HSS equipment in the same way as an ordinary customer. Instead, you can expect to make considerable savings by taking advantage of the various Staff Hire Schemes which operate throughout the Group.

Pensions & Life Assurance

We've thought about your future, too. We make a limited matching contribution into the Company nominated Stakeholder Pension Scheme and this includes life assurance cover.

Long Service Awards

And if you are still with us in five years time? Well, we'll be only too pleased to present you with a special award in recognition of the fact.

You can then look forward to a further Long Service Award for each five years of continuous service.

Nobody wants a dead-end job and so you may already be wondering how you can get on in the Company once you have settled in with us and got the hang of your present job. The short answer is, extremely well if you put your mind to it. All you have to do is show us that you've got the ability and application to succeed and we'll provide the opportunities and the training to help you on your way.

Promotion

Our promotion policy is simple: if you show us you've got the ability, and the application to use it, you can expect to get on. Because, when a position becomes available, we look for 'one of our own' to fill it before we look anywhere else.

That's why you will find that so many of our most senior managers started at the very bottom of the promotion ladder and worked their way up. In fact, at HSS, it is perfectly possible to go from depot driver to Group Director. And that's no fairy-tale. It has happened.

Training

During your first few days with us, you will spend a good deal of time simply finding out about your new job and your place of work.

To help you, you'll receive some formal 'Induction Training', covering such topics as hours of work, workwear, holiday entitlements, security procedures and so on, plus lots of 'on the job' training by your manager and work-mates.

We believe that proper training is absolutely essential for all of our staff. As a Company aiming to be the best, it benefits HSS by helping you achieve and maintain the high standards of work we demand in order to meet that goal. And it benefits you as an individual: by helping to make your job more interesting and enjoyable, and by improving your chances of earning performance-related bonuses and promotions.

Once you have successfully completed your Induction Training, you may therefore be required to undertake further training as it becomes necessary.

In general, this additional training takes one of two forms- 'on the job' training supervised by your manager, and more formal training courses organised either by us or by suitable external agencies.
