Young homeowners 'should know how to paint'

Every homeowner should have the necessary skills to complete simple home improvements, according to one expert.
Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council, believes that if someone knows how to hang a few rolls of paper, then it could save them a considerable amount of money.
Painting is another job that he feels everybody should be taught, with the process of applying "the primer and then the undercoat and then the top coat" when decorating a piece of furniture like a wooden cupboard.
To help with acquiring DIY knowledge, Mr Leech suggests that companies associated with home improvements could hold classes, believing it will help them as much as those who attend.
He explained: "It is good PR for them and it is certainly good for young householders, too."
Mr Leech's advice follows a report from Halifax Home Insurance, which has concluded that a Dad'll Do It trend is becoming more common, as 65 per cent of under-35s have said their fathers are better than them where DIY work is concerned.
