Climbers could make 'an ideal autumn garden'

Homeowners looking to get more colours into their gardens are being encouraged to look at buying climbers.
Though many traditional climbers will be past their best at the end of the summer period, like honeysuckle and roses, others are just starting to hit their prime and could last all the way to the early signs of frost, the Daily Mail has reported.
One of these is an Eccremocarpus scaber, a Chilean glower plant that can produce autumn colours of yellow, red and orange, as well as seeding freely in the autumn for added pleasure next summer.
Another handy addition for gardeners after that end of the year bloom is a Cobaea scandens, which can shoot up at a fast rate for quick success and may even be able to fight through the winter months.
Constance Craig Smith told the Daily Mail: "They provide colour, fragrance and height and using vertical space allows you to pack in far more plants than you would otherwise have room for."
The trend follows advice that Nora Bryan gave to the Calgary Herald recently, saying that people could get ready for next year in the garden now by continuing to water the lawn and looking for the best end of season bargains.
