HSSharing the Job

At HSS we are constantly striving to attract and retain the best people who have the skills, qualities and personalities to perform the job at hand. In doing this, we need to make sure that our workforce is diverse and that we are flexible in making sure the conditions and hours of work are suitable for all.

A great example of the HSS approach to flexible working is with Tara Loxton and Rebecca Lambert. Tara and Rebecca have over 20-years of experience at HSS between them and are both working mums who need to be able to strike a balance between their work and their personal lives. That’s where working at HSS can help!

Tara and Rebecca share the Branch Manager role at HSS Ashford in Kent. Tara works Monday, Tuesday and a half-day Wednesday, and Rebecca picks up the remainder of the week. As HSS is open until midday on Saturdays, the ladies alternate Saturday mornings and handover on Wednesdays to make sure there’s no disruption to the service for their customers.

“I was delighted that HSS could give us this flexibility and provide us with every chance of success. I am so pleased HSS has identified that we are valuable team members and have given us the opportunity to prove this can work for us and will work for others in the future,” said Tara.

“I am very excited to start this new role and am really grateful for the opportunity. I can now continue to work on my career and be a committed mum,” added Rebecca.

HSS’s Head of HR Lisa Crawford believes being flexible with colleagues throughout the business will benefit the company greatly.

“We work in an industry that is typically male orientated and as a company we want to grow the diversity of our workforce. 45% of the working population in the UK is female, so we have to ensure that we offer attractive and flexible employment opportunities that appeal to talented and driven females that are looking to take the next step in their careers.

Offering flexible working practices is just one way that we can do this and our ambition is to continue to learn and adapt so that we’re giving all of our colleagues the best possible opportunities to succeed and grow their careers.” said Lisa.

HSS operates across 300+ locations throughout the UK and supplies tool and equipment hire as well as specialist equipment and services including power generation, powered access, cleaning equipment and services, equipment maintenance, and training.
