Air Cooling Units to Suit Your Business Needs

In order to encourage maximum employee satisfaction and productivity it is essential that the workplace be a comfortable environment, and this includes ensuring the temperature is optimal. The optimal temperature for the workplace should be between 21.7 and 25 degrees Celsius. Luckily, there are various different types of air cooling units out there, meaning there is something to suit every business and their needs. Depending on your business and the working environment, there are different options for air cooling units. From cooling fans and evaporative coolers to air cooled chillers and air conditioning units; there will be something that is right for you. You may be wondering how you would know which is best for you; hopefully we can help you out.

Air Conditioning Units

Air conditioning is the most popular choice for many businesses, they are generally easy to use and cost effective. They can be hired in a variety of sizes, types and with varied cooling duty. There are still some choices to be made when it comes to knowing which air conditioner is best for your business. There are two main types of air conditioning units; Portable Exhaust Tube air conditioning and Split Type air conditioning. In addition to knowing which of these types is the best choice for your business, you also need to calculate the cooling duty you require from your air conditioner. The cooling duty is based on a number of different things; the size of your working environment, the number of people inhabiting the space and the amount of heat producing appliances in the space – this includes things such as computers, printers and photocopiers. It is also a good idea to consider how much sun the workspace gets. If you have a lot of windows which attract the sun, you may require more cooling duty.

Portable Exhaust Tube Air Conditioning

For offices especially, these are considered to be the most practical and cost-effective choice for air conditioning. The way they work is that they pull the hot air in the environment in through the grills on their exterior, this hot air is then moved through a refrigeration cycle in which a heat transfer cools the air before pumping the cool air back out of the front to cool the environment; the hot air is then vented out of an exhaust tube which is attached to the rear. Because the hot air is deposited from the tube at the rear of the unit, ventilation is essential. It is best to place the tube out of a window. Exhaust Tube units often have rather short ventilation tubes so need to be placed near a window, meaning that for workspaces will little to no windows, they may not be the most appropriate choice of air cooling unit.

Split Type Air Conditioning

Split Type air conditioners are considered to be a more effective and flexible type of unit, but they can also be more expensive. A split type unit consists of outer and inner counterparts; the noisier element of the air conditioner is placed outside, whilst the quieter component is place inside. They tend to have longer connectors than exhaust tube types meaning they don’t have to be directly next to a window in order to express the hot air. As they are two components, there is no risk of hot air being released back into the environment. There are two main types of split tube air conditioning; refrigerant and water-cooled. The refrigerant type is similar to exhaust tube air conditioning and uses a refrigerant to cool the air; whereas water-cooled units, as the name suggests, cool the air using water.

Air conditioning units are by far the most cost efficient and popular choice for cooling equipment in business, but they do require ventilation. For spaces where this is not possible there are other options for your cooling needs. Evaporative coolers are another type of air conditioner that relies on the process of evaporation to cool the air rather than a refrigeration cycle. They are a popular choice for buildings without windows as they do not require ventilation. They have a fan in the unit which pushes hot air across a cooling media; then the process of evaporation begins. The process causes a heat transfer to occur which cools the air that is that moved into the working environment. Another option for cooling which does not require ventilation is cooling fans. Cooling fans are a popular choice in warehouses and factories without windows. They don’t only cool the air but can also be used to move around dust and steam. Whilst this is incredibly useful in a factory setting, they do come in a range of sizes and styles meaning you can get smaller office fans to suit your needs. They are generally portable and therefore easy to move around dependant on your needs. For larger manufacturing or commercial cooling needs you can use chiller hire services, these larger chillers are a good choice for both air conditioning needs but also for cooling drinking water, being used for temporary events and even for creating ice rinks!
