A Home to Suit All Environments

With so many different environments and climates all across the world, there has to be ways of constructing homes which can withstand these different, and sometimes extreme environments. Across the world people have invented ways to make buildings even more robust, specifically for their climate or environment. In the UK, generally most properties are constructed in a similar way; give or take some generational differences, however, it’s worthwhile considering a range of alternatives to improve both education and interest around the topic.

For Sustainability

With so much concern surrounding the environment, sustainable housing is becoming more and more readily sought after. A solution you may not have thought about? Flat-pack housing. The Backcountry Hut Company specialise in these structures which are designed to leave minimal impact on the environment, with award-winning design and sustainable manufacturing.

Not only do these flat-packed building systems help solve a housing shortage and make the construction of housing much less time consuming, whilst also blending perfectly into their environment, making them perfect for the more unusual habitats.

For Extreme Wind

In the UK, we do experience our fair share of windy days however not at the same level as some of our Scandinavian neighbours, for example. In an attempt to combat this issue, houses have been built with the intention of withstanding the extreme wind experienced in some areas. By building raised huts, architects managed to create buildings which withstand the severe winds in the Lofoten mountain range in Norway.

For Fire Protection

In some of the warmest parts of the world, where the risk of wildfires is high, houses need to be able to shield themselves from the potential flames. Utilising tiles which reflect heat, water features and sprinkler systems architects were able to create houses which are able to withstand harsh weather. Adding robust shutters and using the highest grade industrial materials means these houses are prepared for potential wildfires.

Whilst, in the UK, we may not have such extreme weather as other countries however we can adopt inspiration from these types of structures which have thought outside of the box to create homes which are in touch with their environment and therefore built to withstand some of the harshest circumstances.
