Festival Power: What you Need to Know

July 26th 2019

When planning an outdoor event, it is essential that you have the right power. The last thing you want is a power disaster that ruins the whole day. When it comes to festivals this is even more important as a power disaster will have an effect on every aspect of the festival. For this reason, it is essential to have a generator. People pay a lot of money to attend a festival, they don’t want it to be ruined by technical difficulties.

The best advice for running an outdoor event such as a festival is to hire a generator. Electricity plays a huge part in a festival, so to lose power would be a disaster. Hiring a generator is a great way to avoid festival power disasters.

Petrol or Diesel Generator?

You can choose from petrol and diesel generators depending on your needs. They also come in a variety of sizes and capacities to suit your event needs. When hiring a petrol generator, the petrol is not supplied but can be purchased from a petrol station, diesel can be purchased separately from us online or in branch.

Working Out how Much Power you Need

Before you hire a generator, you need to know how much power you need to run your event. This is done by adding up all the equipment wattage you need to power together. You can find each item’s individual wattage in the owner’s manual or on the item itself. You need to add together all the items you will be running together or the highest wattage of the item which will be powered alone (whichever is higher). Some items have a starting wattage that is different to the running wattage; more power is required at start up. For these items you can work out the starting wattage by multiplying the running wattage by 3. It is always better to overestimate than underestimate how much power you will need so add 20% to whatever you end wattage requirement is.

Choosing the Right Generator

Once you know your wattage requirements, now you need to look at size and portability options. For a festival, portable generators are probably not going to be as practical as large scale, road towable generators. Depending on your needs, you may require more than one generator so that you can place these intermittently across the festival site as you require.
