The Impact of Social Distancing and How to Keep Busy at Home

March 18th 2020

In light of the current situation regarding the virus COVID-19, it’s important to consider the impact on the construction industry as a whole as well as tradespeople specifically.

There are a few ways to stay positive throughout these times and we thought it best to look at some of these. For those in the industry who may find themselves at home over the coming weeks, it is important to keep busy and proactive where possible; keeping active and getting some fresh air is one of the things you can do to stay positive during these times.

As it appears many of us are going to be spending much more time in our homes with our families, look to turn this difficult time into a positive by partaking in some family activities, doing the DIY jobs we’ve been putting off and getting to work on some fun bits of gardening.

Get your Gardening Gloves On

There is nothing to stop you getting out in your own garden and embracing some extra time with nature. If you’ve yet to prep your garden for spring, now is the time; start tidying and clearing out debris, preparing flower beds and soil, cleaning out the greenhouse and planting new seeds. Whilst there are certain blooms you would have planted during the winter months, there are plenty of things such as seasonal fruits and vegetables which you can still plant now! You’ll thank yourself when you have a beautiful blooming garden come summer.

Create the Perfect Outdoor Space

Summer is the perfect time to spend time in your garden, and what better way to do so than in your own personal outdoor space. If you find yourself wanting to spend a little extra time outside why not start working on your own outdoor space; anything from some new decking or patio, a summerhouse, or wooden gazebo. Projects like this can even get the whole family involved if they are looking for something to do!

Clean the House

For the days when the weather isn’t so inviting, let’s look at what can be done inside the house. Firstly, it is the perfect time of year for a good spring clean! Start by decluttering and removing any items you no longer need; consider how best to dispose of these such as donating to charity. Next, move room by room and deep clean everything from the surfaces to the floors. Once you’ve done the cleaning you can move on to other things.

Rearrange

If you want to give your home a new lease of life without spending a penny then perhaps consider rearranging some furniture. You’d be surprised just how easily you can completely change the look of a room by simply moving some furniture around. This is also a great task to do amongst your spring clean as it allows you to clean places that often get neglected.

Decorate

Lastly, if your décor is looking a little worse for wear now is the time to do some touch ups. Whether you want to opt for a complete overhaul or just freshen everything up, you may as well do it now. You’d be surprised how much keeping productive can help giving your home a new lease of life.
