The summer holidays are coming to a close and the start of a new school year is getting closer. After 6 weeks of fun, it'll be time to get everything ready before you have to set those early morning alarms.
Check out 5 tips we think will help you get your home ready for back to school.
1 - Organise closet space
School uniforms. PE kits. Forest school uniforms. World book day. The list goes on! Before the kids go back to school, get on top of organising their closet space.
Wash, iron and hang up all that they'll need for the first week back. By doing that, you won't have to rush about in the morning to do it, especially if some people are finding it a bit harder to get out of bed (yes, we do mean you parents!)
If you're feeling up to it, you can sort out any other bits that'll will be worn later in the year too and be one step ahead. Whether you create a dedicated space in the wardrobe, chest of drawers or have the kids clothes hung up ready on the back of the door, this tip will save you in the long run.
2 - Deep clean the bathroom
Everyone is going to need to get squeaky clean before they leave for school so prepping everything before hand can help with the chaos.
Give sinks, baths, showers, toilets a real good scrub ahead of the morning rush. Add fresh towels and toothbrushes for everyone & organise their toiletries too. All this prep comes in handy for a smooth morning of getting ready for school.
3 - What's for breakfast/lunch?
I know many of us will be hearing that in the mornings before school. Will it be toast, cereal, pancakes, porridge? Not only will you have to deal with the brekky but if your kids aren't having school dinners, you'll need to prepare their packed lunches too.
Spending 30 mins in the evening the night before to sort out breakfasts and lunches can save you more time in the mornings, keeping the morning vibes calm and cool.
Get your kitchen cupboards, fridges & pantries clean & wiped down, then make a list of all the foods you'll need to restock them for back to school. Why not include the kids and ask them what they'd like to eat throughout the week and add their choices to a whiteboard. No only will they be able to see what they're having that day, but you can remember too and not accidentally send a cheese sarnie on tuna pasta day!
4 - Make a study area
Throughout the year, your mini you's will be bringing home a range of homework so why not create an area where they can study and get their work done, that's not in front of the telly.
Whether it's an unused corner in your living room or a spare room that's being used as a dumping ground, add a desk, a chair, pens, paper and other bits they'll need. To make the space more appealing to your child/ren, why not add a few personal touches. From wall murals & themed accessories to bean bags & pictures, there's plenty you can include to make your kiddies study area pop.
5 - Create a drop zone
Shoes. Book bags. Coats. Umbrellas. Your kids are going to need to take a few things with them to school every morning.
The entryway of your home is the last place everyone will be before heading out and the first point of call when arriving home.
To create a drop zone in your home's entryway, add hooks for bags and coats, storage boxes or racks for shoes, shelving and you can even put up a notice board so you don't forget any important reminders for the next day.
