When it comes to home DIY projects, especially those at a height, which type of access equipment will you need? Choosing the wrong one compromises not only your safety, but also the job being completed efficiently.

In this blog we will discuss the differences between access equipment and how to choose the right one to hire.

What is access equipment?

Access equipment does exactly what is says on the tin; it provides you with safe access to high, hard to reach areas to get particular jobs done.

When deciding on which type of access equipment to get, you'll need to think about the job at hand and what essential elements they have that are beneficial.

You'll also have to factor in the job at hand. For example:

Where is the location?

Is the location safe?

How high up will you need to be?

What time of the day will you be working?

Are the ground conditions safe?

Once you can answer those questions, you can then think about the equipment will be best suited.

Types of access equipment

HSS ProService have a wide range of access equipment, available for hire, that can help keep you safe whilst working at a height.

Ladder & steps

For quick and easy jobs, ladders and steps are a great option. Portable and lightweight, you can easily assemble them for jobs such as:

  • Changing lightbulbs
  • Cleaning gutters
  • Putting decor on walls
  • Hanging curtains
  • Trimming tall hedges

Ladders and steps can be used in different rooms and areas of your home. It will be best to choose one depending on the height of where you'll be working. So, if you're working higher up, opt for ladders, if you'll be working slightly lower, go for the steps.

Low level access platforms

You can hire a low-level access platform in a range of heights, no taller than 6m high.

They have a secure, step-in platform that can keep you safe when elevated and are narrow enough to get through difficult areas such as hallways, corridors, interior doorways and more. These platforms also feature an auto-lock mechanism, so when they are in use they won't move, making them extra safe.

Low-level access platforms can be used for outdoor and indoor jobs such as:

  • Painting
  • Decorating
  • Light installation
  • Inspection work
  • Cleaning

Access towers and platforms

These robust and easy to assemble towers and platforms can be up and ready to use in minutes.

Suitable for indoor jobs, our towers and platforms can hold either 1-2 people safely and come with access gates and guard rails. Just like the low- level access platforms, they are portable and are narrow enough to get through and be used in tight spaces. They also come with anti-slip feet and locking castor stabilisers to keep the equipment secure when using it.

You can use our access towers and platforms for jobs such as:

Plastering

Electrical work

Roofing work

Fitting windows

Cleaning gutters
