9 Ways to Maintain a Clean Home
For some of us, cleaning your home is a huge chore and it really doesn't have to be.
Don't let tidying get you down. With the right help & advice, you can keep your home looking tidy & at it's best for longer.
That's why we have put together a list of 9 ways to maintain a clean home, so you don't have to feel overwhelmed whenever things start to pile up again.
Let's get into it!
1 - Make a plan
There is absolutely nothing wrong with creating a cleaning plan to help you maintain a tidy home.
They keep you on track and allow you to see what you've achieved or what needs to be done.
Make a daily, weekly or monthly plan to help you tackle your cleaning jobs. Get yourself a wipeable whiteboard, a piece of paper or make a list on your phone.
Write down all the cleaning jobs you want to do that day/week/month. But be realistic - don't put 20 jobs down for a day. You'll get overwhelmed. Do a few quick tasks that'll take minutes to get done. For weekly and monthly jobs, you might find you're doing more longer tasks, but don't worry. You can limit those too.
Once you've got through each job, give it a tick or cross it out & watch your list shorten. Easy!
2 - Tidy the bed
Another way you can maintain a clean home is by tidying your bed.
Yep, you read that right.
After a comfy night of being snug as a bug, when you finally rise to start the day, make sure your bed.
We can hear you at the back. "It's a waste of time". But, according to William H. McRaven, making your bed first thing in the morning sets you up for success. His theory claims that having a tidy bed means you start your day with a small success that will encourage more throughout the day.
Tidying your bed is all about setting intentions. So start with this little morning ritual, you'll set yourself up to tackle your cleaning plan.

3 - Tackle the bathroom
Your bathroom gets used multiple times in the day and is full of germs, so you'll want to give it a good clean often to maintain a clean home.
After your you've had a shower or brushed your teeth, give your bathroom a quick clean.
Grab your marigolds, cleaning products and get stuck in.
Clean the shower/bath, wipe the bathroom mirror, sort out the sink & scrub the toilet.
It won't take you longer than 15 minutes to do and you'll be glad once it's done.
4 - Don't let the dishes pile up
We know how it starts. 1 cup here. A fork or 3 here. Before you know it, you'll have accumulated a mountain of crockery in the sink or on the counters.
To maintain a clean home, keep on top of your washing up. Once you've finished with a meal, wash everything up there and then. Don't let it build up.
Another good tip is to clean as you cook. If you've finished with that pan, give it a wash while you wait for the rest of your food to cook. It cuts down your washing pile and saves time too.
Once you've washed up all your dishes, use a microfibre cloth to get rid of the excess water in the sink & wipe down your counter tops using a disinfectant spray.

5 - Sweep, hoover, mop, repeat
Your flooring will see different amounts of foot traffic during the week. Not only that but there's food & drink, pet hair, dust and more that can gather on your floors.
First thing to do is to either sweep or hoover, depending on the type of flooring you have. It's best to sweep a hard floor and to hoover a carpeted area. Whichever you decide on doing, this task alone is enough to change the look of your flooring from dirty to fresh.
Then if you have hard flooring, like wood or tiles, you'll want to mop it to sanitize the floor and make it look good too!
By doing this a couple of times a week, you keep on top of maintaining a clean home. And this is another cleaning job that takes minutes to do.
6 - Take the lead with laundry
Just like washing up, if you leave your laundry to pile up, you'll find an over flow of dirty clothes.
To maintain a clean home, if you can, put a wash on every couple of days. Another option is to put all your dirty laundry in a wash basket instead for when you're ready to wash them.
It'll make your home look tidier rather than have clothes all over the floor or hung over furniture.
But don't leave it too long and run out of clean clothes!

7 - Take out the trash
Everyday we dispose of multiple things from food waste, cardboard boxes to plastic bottles.
Instead of letting your old food fester or your recyclables stack up on your countertops, take your rubbish out regularly.
Doing this job not only maintains a clean home but also eliminates bad odours that may come from your rubbish.
8 - Keep on top of dusting
It's easy to forget certain cleaning jobs sometimes & dusting is one of those jobs.
There's so much to dust and keep clean - sideboards, tv units, furniture, home decor. The list goes on.
Regularly dusting your household items will not only have them looking their best but it can improve your air quality too. Accumulating a lot of dust in your home can trigger asthma, allergic reactions & even make it hard for those with respiratory conditions to breathe comfortably.
Make sure to keep on top of dusting to maintain a clean home.

9 - Declutter!
Over time, we can find ourselves surrounded by clutter that we've collected (and probably forgotten we had!)
Too many things in your home can make it look messy and takes away valuable space. It also makes cleaning a lot hard as there's too much to tidy & you may not be able to deep clean your home as often as you'd like.
Take a room at a time and go through what you have. Sort things in to piles - keep & save.
Be brutal! It won't be easy but you can't only get rid of 1 or 2 things.
Donate those jeans you'll never wear again. Find a new home for that bike you've hardly used. Sell that cabinet that's taking up all that space in your dining room.
If you've not used it in the last 6 months to a year, think about getting rid of it. There's no point clinging on to things you don't use anymore.
Maintaining a clean home is easier than you think
And there you have it. Maintaining a clean home is a lot easier than we think.
