As we enter the spring months, now may be the time to start thinking about any DIY jobs you might want to get done around your home and garden. Here are 6 of our top DIY jobs we think you should tackle in spring.

Get Organising

Now that winter & the festive period are out of the way, you may find you have accumulated a lot of extra things around your home such as presents & extra rubbish.

Having a de-clutter and reorganising your belongings is a great task to do in the spring. By doing this you can store away all of your winter decorations until it's needed again and go through the rooms in your home & decide what you want to keep or donate/throw away.

For other post-Christmas clean up tips, check out our dedicated blog here.

Spring Cleaning

After you've organised and de-cluttered, it'll be the perfect time to do a deep clean around your home.

The winter months bring wetter weather, so you'll find more mud and dirt being walked into your home. Not only that, if you're hosting dinner parties or other social gatherings, your floors are guaranteed to suffer from drink and food spillages too.

Mopping floors and giving the carpet a deep clean are best done in the spring before it gets too warm. At HSS, we have carpet cleaners for hire as well as a range of mops, buckets & other cleaning products to buy to help get your home spotless again.

Paint Touch Ups

Touching up paintwork is something we all probably overlook from time and time. Why not face the task head on and use this time to get both interior and exterior paint touch up jobs out of the way.

With the warmer weather upon us, your paint jobs can dry quicker so you won't have to worry about wet paint. Whether you're repainting your garden fence, going over a chipped door frame or giving your bedroom wall a fresh lick of paint, we have a wide selection of painting tools, paints, varnishes, stains, preserves & treatments that'll suit your needs.

Patio Cleaning

Now that the sun is starting to peek out from clouds, it won't be long until it's back shining full time (or part time depending on the typical British weather!).

BBQ's, gardening, sunbathing and other fun outdoor activities will be on the cards so you'll need to make sure that your patio is cleaned & ready to go. A tall stiff brush with hot soapy water can do the trick but for a full in-depth clean look to use a pressure washer to bring the patio back to looking as good as new.

Clean the Gutters

Over winter, your gutters will become clogged with leaves, twigs and other debris which can cause damage if not cleared. During the sunny season, there won’t be as much getting blown in your gutters so the spring months is a great time to clear them out.

You'll need ladders, gloves & a bucket. Make sure you use suitable ladders to clear your gutter system and only go up them if you feel confident in doing so.

Preparing the Garden

Back in the garden, there are a variety of jobs other than cleaning your patio that will need doing. From sowing seeds, pruning bushes to lawncare and fixing garden furniture, there is plenty to do in your garden in the springtime. For any garden hand tools, lawnmowers, feed & seeds, weedkiller and other garden tools and accessories, check out our website.
