Couple sat in front of fire pit in the garden.

Ahh, summer is here. Finally!

We all know how to take advantage of the summer daytime but how can we do the same in the evening time?

Just because the sun has gone down doesn't mean the outdoor fun must come to an end.

In this blog, we will discuss how you can make the most of your summer evenings in your garden and savour the sunny season for as long as possible.

garden globe lights

Outdoor lighting

With the sun starting to set earlier as summer comes to an end, it means we lose natural light in our gardens. Don't be left in the dark! Get yourself some stylish outdoor lighting to brighten up the place.

Having outdoor lighting means you can extend the lighting hours and keep having fun outdoors.

There are many types of lighting you can have in your garden:

  • wall lights
  • decking lights
  • bollard lights
  • string/fairy lights
  • lanterns
  • spot lights
  • path lights

and plenty more! Whichever you choose will depend on your preference & style.

Do I choose environmentally friendly lighting or battery operated?

Again, that's all up to you. Both options have their pros and cons, so weigh them up and go for what is best.

Solar lighting

If you are looking for a low maintenance solution, that reduces your carbon footprint, opt for solar garden lighting.

Solar garden lighting only requires a minimal amount of charge to work effectively. So by the time the sun sets, the lights will be ready to shine.

For best results, solar lights should be positioned in open spaces where sunlight can easily reach them. You won't need to worry about tripping over wires either as solar lights tend to be free-standing.

Battery operated lighting

This is a great option for your garden as you'll be able to choose where you light up your garden without restrictions.

Unlike solar lighting that depends on the sun for energy, battery operated lighting can be placed high, low & in hard to reach area.

As you won't need a main power supply for the lighting to work, you won't need to worry about them being close to a plug socket & save on your energy bills & you'll save on your energy bills too.

Each lighting style will fit in perfectly with your garden, keeping your outdoor area illuminated for alfresco dining, quiet time with a book or for simply sitting & chatting with loved ones.

outdoor heater

Patio heaters

Because we spend so much time indoors, we naturally seek solace in our gardens especially in the warmer months.

But as the summer season begins to come to a close and autumn slowly creeps in, it brings with it the dreaded cold chill.

Luckily, we have a solution. One which doesn’t involve having to wear four coats or cocooning yourself in a king-sized quilt.

Invest in a patio heater.

Whether you choose gas or infrared, patio heaters keep the warmth of the daytime sunshine going well into the evening time.

So keep enjoying time in your garden & not have to worry about moving indoors.

Get some comfy seating

When you're spending time relaxing in your garden, you're going to want to sit on some comfortable garden furniture.

You could sit on your lawn if you have one or even on the paved floor but who wants to do that when there's so many comfy seats to choose from.

Made from a range of materials, there's garden sofas, dining sets, bistro sets & even sun loungers that'll fit your taste.

Once you've found the furniture for you, why not add some cushions and blankets for extra comfort. Just don't forget to take them inside each night in case the rain decides to make an appearance once you've gone inside (because we can never predict the British weather).

Fire pit

If a patio heater isn't for you, then you may want to invest in a fire pit to make the summer days last longer.

As well as adding much needed heat to a cooler night in the garden, fire pits also create a calm, cosy atmosphere for you & your loved ones to enjoy.

You can use them all year round and they make a stunning focal piece too.

If you're feeling fancy, why not grab some marshmallows and get roasting them on the fire for an evening snack like a camp fire. Kumbaya anyone?

Get some garden entertainment going

Who doesn't love a bit of entertainment from time to time?

If you're looking for ways to add a bit of something extra in your garden, why not get some entertainment going.

Music

Bring a speaker outside and chill out to your favourite tunes - at a respectable noise level of course.

Playing music can have many benefits including -

  • potentially improving your mood
  • it can help with physical health
  • your memory may get better

Sounds great to us!

Projector screen

Bring the cinema to you!

Nowadays, we don't have to watch tv indoors. By simply putting up a projector, you can have a movie night in your garden.

Make sure you put the projector is a sheltered area so it's protected from the sun, wind & rain.

A flat surface is best to for placing your projector on, so maybe a wall, a garden fence or the inside a pergola or gazebo will do.

Grab a seat, choose a blanket, get your favourite snacks and enjoy the show.

Let's make more of our summer evenings

Extending the summer evenings in our gardens couldn't be easier.

By adding lighting, cushions, blankets, projectors & more, we can keep enjoying our time outside even when the sun has disappeared.

Make the most of the lovely weather whilst you can. Let's face it, it'll be a while before we see it again.
