Pets, food & drink spills, foot traffic and general wear & tear all contribute to making your carpet dirty over time.
It’s important to not only remove stains as quickly as possible but to also give your carpets a deep clean every so often.
We’ve put together some tips on how to deep clean a carpet using a Karcher carpet cleaner and ways to keep your carpet cleaner for longer.
How to use a Karcher carpet cleaner
1. Clear away all the furniture in the room, tie any curtains out of your way and thoroughly hoover the carpet.
2. To set up the Karcher carpet cleaner, unravel the plug that's in the bottom compartment of the cleaner.
We'd recommend plugging the Karcher carpet cleaner in a socket outside the room as well as using an RCD breaker for maximum safety.
You can purchase the breaker at the checkout when ordering online.
3. Remove the clear lid and take out the 10L water container to give it a thorough cleaning before use.
Fill it with 1 part carpet cleaning solution & 2 gallons of hand hot water. Once the solution has been mixed in the water container, pour it into the clean water compartment, on the other side of the machine.
Make sure to put the container back in it's place, securely locking the lid, as this is where the dirty water will be collected.
4. Next, you'll need to build the floor cleaning wand from the three compartments provided.
There are different nozzles you can use depending on whether you're cleaning upholstery or carpets.
Loosen the lock collar on the trigger section & the floor piece. Insert the alloy tube into either end, ensuring the small tube lines up.
Once lined up, push the tube fully in until you hear a click then secure it by turning the lock collar fully anticlockwise. Repeat this step on the remaining end piece.
When the wand is built, you can attach the flexible supply hoses to it as well as the machine.
5. To begin using the Karcher carpet cleaner, connect to a power supply and turn both the vacuum & solution switches on.
When you begin to use the cleaner, use the trigger underneath the handle to spray the carpet with the solution.
Releasing the trigger stops the solution from coming out and allows you to vacuum over the area until the dirty water has been removed.
6. Work in straight lines across the carpet, spraying the carpet with the solution.
Work on areas no bigger than 1 meter squared at a time.
7. If the nozzle stops spraying or the water begins to foam, stop the machine and replace the water with a fresh batch of cleaning solution.
8. When you've finished, first remove the head attachment from the wand & place the vacuum hose in the clean water until the remaining water has siphoned through to the dirty water container.
Then turn off both switches on the machine, get rid of the water, disconnect the power & clean the equipment thoroughly.

5 benefits of deep cleaning your carpets
Deep cleaning your carpets comes with several benefits, not just aesthetical but health related too.
1. Minimises allergic reactions
Carpets can accumulate dust mites and other allergens, which over time can cause allergic reactions.
Unfortunately, allergens cannot simply be removed by vacuuming.
A deep clean will reduce any allergy symptoms such as sneezing, coughing and watery eyes.
2. Removes mould and mildew growth
Cleaning your carpets on a regular basis helps to prevent moisture from building up.
Any water build up on your carpets can cause bacteria and mildew which leads to mould growth.
This can also happen where carpets are exposed to dampness for too long such as a spillage that hasn't been sorted straight away or if a flood has occurred.
3. Reduces pet hairs
As pet owners will tell you, fur on carpets, upholstery & furniture can be a frustrating household problem.
Using the Karcher carper cleaner can help avoid bad smells and a large build up of pet hair in carpets.
4. Avoids carpet moths
Carpet moths are a common pest in the UK that can be difficult to avoid.
They tend to thrive in very well-heated houses, particularly close to skirting boards and corners where hairs and skin can lie.
To prevent carpet moths, you should thoroughly deep clean your carpet as well as your skirting boards with a damp cloth.
Sometimes, you may need to contact a professional carpet cleaner to get rid of carpet moths, depending on the stage of infestation.
5. Gets your carpets looking their best again
Deep cleaning your carpet every few months means you'll see the most visible changes in the colour of your carpet.
Not only will it start to look great again but it'll have a lovely fresh smell and you'll extend the life-span of your carpet so you won't have to replace your carpets often.
How to maintain a clean carpet in 6 easy steps
- Don’t wear shoes in the house – ask your guest to take their shoes off. You'll be surprised at how quickly mud and residue can build up after a long time of being walked across.
- Use welcome mats - keep them at the entrance of your home as an extra precaution to preventing dirt from entering the home.
- Regularly vacuum - cleaning you carpets frequently should help maintain the cleanliness and quality of your carpets.
- Use a high-quality carpet shampoo - this will act as a protector and barrier against future stains.
- Don’t scrub any stains into your carpet - simply blot the stain and remove moisture with paper towels. If you scrub too hard, you may end up damaging your carpet.
- Avoid applying too much water or detergent to the stained area - doing this results in drenching & damaging your carpet. It can also encourage lingering odours. Keep your carpet as dry as possible.
