A bank holiday is a great opportunity to get some well-needed DIY jobs done around your home, thanks to the lovely long weekend.
There are plenty of tasks to do indoors and if the weather is decent, you can do some outdoors too.
Here are 6 DIY projects you can do in your home or garden over the bank holiday weekend.
Indoor projects
Touch up the paintwork
A bank holiday is a great time to give your home a new lease of life.
Grab some paint & a paint brush to touch up any damaged paintwork or totally revamp a room.
From walls, doors, bannisters, radiators to skirting boards, you can take your home from drab to fab with the simple help of a new colour.
Restore the floor
Another DIY project you can tackle over the bank holiday is giving your wooden floors a refresh.
You can hire the floor and edge sander hire pack can remove old imperfections like paints & stains. The sanders can also smooth out your wooden flooring, leaving a professional finish.
Not sure how to sand your flooring? Check out our blogs that tells you all you need to know about floor sanding & how to use the edging sander.
Once your wood flooring has been smoothed down, choose a wood stain, oil or varnish to add a pop of colour & a layer of protection.
Do a deep Clean
General cleaning is enough for the most part, but every so often a thorough deep clean is definitely needed.
Get cleaning behind the sofa & cabinets. Clean out the fridge. Deep clean your oven. Dust your surfaces, blinds and wall.
The list is endless!
The bank holiday weekend is the perfect time to clean every inch of your home & HSS DIY can help do that.
You can hire or buy:
a vacuum - for getting rid of any loose dirt on your flooring
a carpet cleaner - to get your carpets or even your upholstery looking brand new again
a floor scrubber - to make your hardwood floors shine again
a window cleaner & glass cleaning solution - for, you guessed it, cleaning your windows both internally & externally
car valet & maintenance products - to give your car a well-deserved spruce up
and so much more. It all depends on what you're planning on deep cleaning.

Outdoor Projects
Sort the shed out
Now you've got some extra time on your hands, let's get the shed sorted out.
Over time, we'll have put everything & anything in there from garden hand tools, power tools, furniture, soil, tarp.....the list can get very long!
If the weather is dry, take out everything you have in your shed and get organising.
Make piles - 1 for keep, 1 for donate/sell, 1 for throwing away.
You'll be surprised at just how much you've kept that you don't actually need anymore.
Once everything has been sorted, you'll be able to put whatever you're keeping back in your shed & organise it properly.
Get the pressure washer out
If this bank holiday brings decent weather, use this chance to take advantage of the sun (or dry weather) & clean your decking.
Weather conditions, general use & natural debris all contribute to the state of our decking and every so often, we need to give it a good clean.
The easiest way to tackle the dirt is to hire a pressure washer from us.
Pressure washers are perfect for quickly blasting grime off your decking, getting it looking good as new in no time.
When the cleaning is all done, you can revive the timber by applying a treatment, preserver & a stain to keep it looking it's best for longer.
Want to know how to use a pressure washer? Check out our blog that's full of handy info about all you need to know about pressure washers.
Whilst you've got the pressure washer out, you don't have to limit it's use to the decking.
You can also use it for cleaning:
- your patio
- your house's exterior
- garden paths
- driveways
- garden tools
- bikes
Give the lawn a trim
Take advantage of the bank holiday and use the time to do some lawn maintenance.
As our bank holidays fall in the spring & summer months, the (hopefully) sunny weather will have encouraged the lawn to grow quicker.
Having a long lawn not only looks messy, the grass can become unhealthy and change colour as there's less sunlight & water getting to the roots.
Before the grass grows too long, pull the lawnmower out and give the lawn a decent trim.
Afterwards, add some nutrients to your lawn so it can continue to grow healthy.
We have a variety of feed & seed you can choose from to keep your lawn looking lush & keep weeds away.
