Please note: Images are for illustration purposes only. Actual product supplied may differ.
If you are looking to avoid underground service pipes or power cables whilst digging the Cable and Pipe Locator CAT4+ will locate them quickly, safely and accurately. Building on the features of the standard CAT4 by adding a depth estimation function to give you more accurate determination of buried utility location, the CAT4+ also includes StrikeAlert technology, which provides a warning for shallow utilities that could be easily struck during excavation.
It features four separate signal determination modes, with information about each relayed through the built-in LCD screen. The first of these signals is Avoidance Mode which allows for quick checks of an area for power, radio, and Genny signals, indicating the presence of buried utilities. The Power Mode focuses on detecting electromagnetic fields emitted by energised power cables. The Radio Mode detects long-range radio signals transmitted through buried pipes and cables, whilst the Genny Mode, when used in conjunction with the Genny4 (49523), allows for depth estimation and detection of utilities that don't emit their own signals.

Questions
The CAT4 Plus is used to locate buried power cables and service pipes before digging, helping to prevent damage, costly repairs, and potential injury.
Using a cable locator helps you detect underground utilities, ensuring you avoid hitting live cables or pipes that could cause serious safety risks or service disruption.
The CAT4 Plus includes a depth estimation function and StrikeAlert technology, giving you more precise detection and warnings for shallow utilities.
StrikeAlert provides a visual and audible warning if the tool detects shallow utilities close to the surface that could be easily damaged during digging.
Yes, it can locate both power cables and metallic service pipes using different signal detection modes.
Avoidance Mode checks for multiple signals at once, Power Mode finds live electrical cables, Radio Mode detects naturally transmitted radio signals, and Genny Mode (used with the Genny4) helps locate utilities that don’t emit their own signals.
While the CAT4 Plus can detect many signals on its own, using it with the Genny4 transmitter improves accuracy and helps locate utilities that don’t carry power.
Yes, the depth estimation feature provides an approximate depth measurement, helping you plan safe digging without risking a strike.
Yes, the CAT4 Plus is user-friendly, with a clear LCD display and simple controls that make it suitable for both professionals and DIY users.
Yes, it’s built with IP54-rated protection, meaning it’s resistant to dust and water splashes - ideal for use outdoors or on construction sites.
It’s ideal for any work involving ground excavation such as fencing, landscaping, pipe laying, or installing posts and foundations.
Yes, like all precision tools, it should be serviced and calibrated periodically to maintain its accuracy and safety features.
Yes, it includes a USB connection, allowing you to transfer usage data for record-keeping or analysis.
By warning you of shallow utilities, it allows operators to adjust digging plans and prevent accidental strikes that could cause injury or equipment damage.
You should wear safety goggles and gloves, especially when working on active construction or excavation sites.
