Now we are well and truly into the winter months, it is starting to get pretty chilly inside. Heating an entire house can be expensive and sometimes inefficient which is why sometimes it is much more efficient to use a space heater. Space heaters are also a popular alternative should your boiler be in need of repair.

Space heaters are appliances used to heat an enclosed space; generally there are different types of space heaters to choose from but they can all be money and energy saving as they only heat the room that it is in, rather than the entire house or building. Space heaters aren’t only great for domestic use but also for commercial use in warehouses or small offices for enclosed heating.

Electric Radiator Heater

The portable electric radiator heater is twice as efficient as a traditional radiator. This electric heater is the perfect solution for small offices, domestic rooms or site huts warm and comfortable through winter. It is an oil-filled radiator with a built in thermostat which maintains the temperature at your chosen level. This radiator offers three output levels which can be adjusted to match the weather.

As this electric heater only heats the immediate area, it is far more efficient than heating an entire house. It has a safety cut off to ensure it does not overheat as well as a tilt safety cut out.

Commercial Infrared Heater

This infrared heater is the perfect solution for temporary heating or even drying paintwork and plaster. Infrared heaters work by using high frequency heat waves that penetrate the air without heating it. Instead, infrared heaters warm objects and people rather than the atmosphere making them one of the most efficient heating solutions as no heat is wasted. Suitable for use in both domestic and commercial settings, this heater projects heat up to 6m and is easily manoeuvred.

LPG Space Heater

This larger space heater is ideal for warehouses, factories and even for drying out buildings. It is a standard propane fired convection heater. It is both simple and economic to run. It is propane powered and therefore needs no electrical supply. For larger industrial spaces this heater is one of the most efficient.

Safety Considerations

There are various safety considerations which should be made when hiring a space heater. First of all the size should be relative to the space you’re wanting to heat. Make sure the heater has the extra features you require; for example if you need a remote this should be considered.

Fire safety is massively important. Heaters should be kept at a sage distance from flammable objects; at least 3ft. Most gas heaters are not safe to be used inside so if the heater you choose is gas operated, it is important to check whether it is safe to use inside and if you’re unsure don’t use it. Generally for domestic purposes, electric and infrared heaters are the preferred choice.
